Katie School Student Leadership Program in Risk Consulting

The Katie School Student Leadership Program in Risk Consulting brings together 20 of the top students from the College to participate in an eight-month program culminating with a student risk consulting project for one of several local not-for-profit organizations. Students earn a scholarship and certification upon completion. This program begins during the fall semester and ends in late spring. It is facilitated by a combination of industry executives and faculty from various disciplines. Components of the program include the following:

 

Personal Discovery

  • Communication styles assessment
  • Personal character, personal risk profile, and personal motivators assessments with executive coaching

 

Leadership Principles Exposure

  • Conflict resolution and negotiation
  • Working effectively in teams
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Business communication
  • Insurance industry issues
  • Risk management and risk consulting
  • Transitioning from student leader to industry employee

 

Experiential Leadership in Action

  • Identifying and assessing an organization’s risk
  • Developing risk treatment alternatives
  • Presenting recommendations to an organization’s senior executives/and or Board of Director's
