Post Graduate Information Form
The insurance program at the Katie School offers an excellent classroom education for students pursuing careers in insurance and financial services. This is complemented with outstanding experiences outside of class to further develop our students through activities in the corporate sector.
The Katie School encourages students to attend industry conferences including the RIMS conference, REBEX, the NAPSLO conference, and the Surplus Lines Insurance Symposium at Troy University. These opportunities allow students to network with industry professionals, attend educational sessions and visit with industry providers about the latest products and services. The students hone their business and social etiquette skills during the various professional and social gatherings during the meetings.
Additionally student officers in the Gamma Iota Sigma insurance fraternity attend the fraternity's President's Conference and the Annual International Management Conference each year. There they are able to interact with peers studying insurance and risk management at universities around the country.
Students are strongly encouraged to experience internships which offer colllege credit for real-world, on the job experience. Internships are available during the fall, spring, or summer sessions and enable a student to witness first-hand professional settings and acquire business experience. There are many opportunities to intern around the U.S. and also to travel to London, Bermuda and Zurich for international internship locations.
The industry is an important component of the Katie School and numerous industry professionals speak to classes and share experiences with students and faculty. Over 150 companies recruit students on our campus each year offering career and internship opportunities. Scholarships provided by companies and organizations are awarded to outstanding insurance majors and minors, with more than $100,000 awarded annually.
A select number of outstanding students have the opportunity to partcipate in the Katie School Student Leadership Program which further enriches the students in such areas as communication, leadership, critical thinking, and team building and concludes with a risk consulting project with one of several local not-for profit organizaitons.
